Dr Andrew Malenkia
My name is Dr Andrew Maleknia and I provide high quality psychological therapy to patients and their families through short-term focused interventions or longer term psychological interventions. I pride myself in having years of experience of working for the NHS, charitable organisations and in private practice. I am passionate about my clinical work and about the way in which psychology can bring to the surface our unknown thoughts and feelings that underline some of our unhelpful patterns of behaviour. I am so happy to be able to help and support Al’s Pals and the work they do with and for the patients and their families.
I am a chartered member of the British Psychological Society and also an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. I am registered with the HCPC (Health & Care Professions Council).
I work ethically and effectively as a reflective scientist-practitioner and I work creatively, compassionately and collaboratively with all my clients.
I view all my clients through a unique non-pathologizing lens which means difficulties faced by clients should not be seen as intrinsic, inescapable diseases, nor should treatment focus on “healing” an issue in such a way. Therefore, I adopt a strengths based approach. I understand clients’ issues through a developmental perspective and I offer interventions that are brief and/or preventative.
I use evidence based psychological interventions to instil self-understanding among clients and encourage them to adopt new attitudes and feelings towards life situations. It is essential to keep in mind that therapy is not a magic pill or a quick fix: therapy is a healing process that necessitates participation and investment from the client and therapist alike.
There comes a time when help is needed from a qualified professional to cope with many of life’s challenges. I’m a Chartered Psychologist in the Milton Keynes area, and I’m here to support you on your journey toward healing and self-discovery. I integrate techniques from Person Centred Therapy, Compassionate Focused Therapy (CFT) and use some elements from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), EMDR and Mindfulness. I use concepts from Evolutionary Psychology, Social Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Buddhist Psychology, and Neuroscience. By using person centred therapy and compassionate mind training I help people develop and work with experiences of inner warmth, safeness, and soothing.
With You Every Step of the Way
Deciding to see a therapist is an important step that requires courage as well as acceptance of the difficulties that life might have confronted you with. However, it is not unusual for people to feel anxious when having to book the first appointment. These feelings are normal and a sign that you are starting the therapeutic work.
Anxiety and awareness of something not quite working is the first step in finding a solution and although there are a myriad of myth surrounding therapy, there is also a great deal of evidence and testimonies that show that it works. Please get in touch with Al’s Pals today and see how we can support you.
